A 30-year-old assistant manager of Infosys allegedly committed suicide in her house in Geddalahalli on Monday. The deceased has been identified as Smitha Rao, an ex-journalist. Preliminary investigation suggested that she took the extreme step due to harassment by her husband Rohith Anantha Krishna, an employee of Google. The police have taken Rohith into custody for interrogation. A suicide note was not found in the house.
Assistant commissioner of police (KR Puram) Narayanaswamy said Smitha’s mother Padmaja Rao and other relatives alleged that she committed suicide due to harassment by Rohith. “We have registered a case against Smitha’s husband Rohith based on the complaint lodged by her mother. We are investigating the case and will find out the exact reason behind her extreme step,” Narayanaswamy said.
Around 10am, Rohith found Smitha hanging in the house. Smitha was rushed to Columbia Asia Hospital, where she was declared brought dead. The body was shifted to Dr BR Ambedkar Hospital for postmortem before it was handed over to family members. Smitha and Rohith were married four years ago. Smitha had worked with various newspapers in the city before joining Infosys in 2010. She was handling the online content of the company’s website. Courtesy : DNA
