A women Two Wheeler Helmet Rally by the girl students was organized by the Chandigarh Traffic Police on 11.11.2011. The rally was flagged off by Sh. Alok Kumar, IPS, DIG, Chandigarh. Approximately 200 girl students of MCMDAV College for women Chandigarh participated in the rally.The rally started from Sector 17 (backside Neelam Cinema) and took round in markets of sector 17, 18, 21, 22 & 23 and dispersed back in Sector 17, Chandigarh.Chandigarh Traffic Police has provided the Safety Helmets to all the participants. The girls also displayed the slogans on road safety to aware the general public. The prizes were given to the girls whose slogans were selected by the Chandigarh Traffic Police. On 11.11.2011, a Seminar on �Marital Problems and their Solution; Legal Rights of Married Women was organized in connection with Chandigarh Police Week by NRI Cell/W & CSU at Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector-26, Chandigarh. Dr. Seema Vinayak, Chairperson, Deptt. of Psychology, Punjab University, Chandigarh was the chief guest on the occasion. Col. J.S. Bala, Secretary, Sikh Educational Society, Chandigarh welcomed the distinguished guests and panel of eminent speakers. While addressing the gathering S. G.S. Brar, President, SES appreciated the initiative of the Police to approach young women to inform them of their civil, political & legal rights. Sh. R.S. Ghuman, IPS, SP Operations gave a presentation on marriages: �An initiative of Women and Child Support Unit�. Mr. Atul Sethi, ADA, Chandigarh and Mrs. Santosh Singh, Chairperson Family Counseling Centre, W & CSU, Chandigarh stressed on the need of creating awareness among women regarding their legal rights and functioning of counseling centers in marital disputes. Sh. Kamaldeep Singh, DSP, Chandigarh Police emphasized the working of women and child support unit. Dr. Charanjit Kaur Sohi, Principal expressed the gratitude to the organizers of the seminar and loaded the endeavor of the Police to enhance awareness of law/rights among young women. She raised analytical issues with the students to address whether marriages is a union of minds and the futility of continuing in a broken marriage. She emphasized the mental clarity to distinguish between actual dowry and need and utility based support. She exhorted her girls to learn to empower themselves before taking recourse to law. The College girls gained a lot of information from the seminar.
