NGO AAWAAJ MEETING ON MUNICIPAL ELECTION AGENDA JAN LOKPAL


CHANKDIGARH, KULBIR KALSI. Civil society group “Aawaaz” organized  a meeting in Chandigarh, which was  attended widely by members from different walks of life of tricity. The agenda of the meeting was coming Municipal Elections which are scheduled to take place from coming December.  “Aawaaz” has decided to support the candidates who will support  Jan Lokpal Bill. It was also decided in the meeting that members of “Aawaaz” along with various NGO’s, residents welfare societies, social activists will go to every candidate, who is going to  contest the Municipal Elections and will ask them to sign the pledge letter, whereby one will pledge and undertake to support Jan Lokpal Bill. At the same time, the candidate will also pledge that he/she will never involve himself/herself in the corrupt practices and will do his best to make his ward corruption free.Gaurav Goel, an advocate and an active member of “Aawaaz” said that residents/voters of Chandigarh will get an opportunity to know whether their candidates are willing to fight against corruption or not . He says that If the candidates don’t sign the pledge letter then voters should not cast his/her vote to such candidate. It’s a welcome step and we will also make an appeal to residents to please come out and Vote in large numbers for the genuine candidate, irrespective of any political party, who would stand by people and take a pledge to make every effort for the development of the society.

B.S. Makar, adv. said that it is the right of the residents of Chandigarh to know whether the candidate, they are casting vote for, is serious on the issue of corruption or not. Sunil Bansal & JP Bajwa strongly said that nominated counselors should not be given voting rights and they shall be selected purely on the merit basis. Aawaaz will soon give a memorandum to the Governor along with the list of the 20 purposed counselors’, who are socially active amongst different fields i.e. retired honest police officers/IAS officers/judges, social activists, industrialists, lawyers, teachers & doctors.
